Who am i and why i do what i do
My name is David Conway. Since I was a kid, I’ve always had a love for entertainment, especially video games. As I got older, I found myself increasingly interested not only in the games themselves but also in how they actually worked and how they were made. This curiosity, combined with my natural talent and inclination for problem-solving, set me on the path to becoming a game designer and programmer.
While I was making my way through college, the VR boom happened, and I became fascinated with virtual reality and its potential. From there, I began focusing my work and efforts on VR development—particularly with the Unity engine, which is one of the best platforms for VR.
After college, I joined Emagine Media, a VR tourism and training company. While working with them, I greatly expanded my skill set, especially in Unity. The team was very talented but relatively small, which meant that everyone had to take on multiple roles during development. As a result, I worked with nearly every system in Unity to some extent and used a wide range of asset store tools, including PlayMaker, FinalIK, and EasySave. I learned what I could do in VR and, more importantly, that with time, effort, and imagination, the possibilities are endless.
Of course, VR isn’t the only technology I’m interested in. I am curious about innovative ways to apply cutting-edge and traditional technologies to solve problems. Not all of these technologies end up being useful like NFTs or blockchain, but others, such as photogrammetry and generative AI, have proven incredibly valuable and have become part of my toolkit. I believe AI, when misused or over-relied on, can produce subpar results. However, when used effectively as a tool, it allows me to create things in a single day that might otherwise take a week.
In short, I am someone who has always wanted to be a developer, a problem solver, and someone who creates things to entertain and fascinate others. I have an undying love for creative problem-solving, and I’m always excited to learn new things. I’m never happier than when I have a challenging problem to tackle or when I see people’s joy and fascination with something I’ve created.
